About & Authenticity

The Archive.

STA Apparel is a curated vintage football jersey archive based in Southern California. Founded by Steven Alvarez, the collection exists at the intersection of football history, kit culture, and collector-grade curation. Every piece in the archive is selected with intention — not to fill inventory, but to preserve a moment in the sport.

This isn't a resale shop. It's a record of the game.

How We Source

Every jersey in the archive is sourced through a deliberate, multi-channel process — private collections, estate finds, international markets, and long-standing relationships with collectors across Europe, South America, and the US. We don't chase volume. We chase the right pieces.

Before anything enters the archive, it goes through a hands-on review: era-correct labeling, fabric composition, print method, badge construction, and overall condition. If it doesn't hold up, it doesn't make the cut.

Authentication

Authenticating vintage football kits requires more than a visual check. We evaluate each piece against a set of era-specific criteria:

  • Manufacturer tags & labels — correct font, placement, and country of origin for the production year
  • Fabric & construction — material weight, stitching method, and collar/cuff finishing consistent with the era
  • Print & badge application — heat-press vs. embroidery vs. woven patch, applied correctly for the season
  • Sponsor & kit details — sponsor placement, colorway, and numbering style cross-referenced against match records and official kit releases
  • Provenance — where available, documentation, receipts, or collector history is noted

When something is listed as authentic, we've done the work to back it up.

Rarity Tiers

Not every vintage jersey carries the same weight. Our three-tier system reflects scarcity, historical significance, and collector demand — not just age.

Standard

Authentic vintage pieces with solid provenance and good condition. Harder to find than retail, but not impossible. Great entry points for collectors building a foundation.

Limited

Jerseys with meaningful scarcity — short production runs, regional releases, player-specific variants, or kits tied to a significant but underrepresented moment. These move fast and don't come back.

Grail

The rarest pieces in the archive. Match-worn, 1-of-1 variants, historically pivotal kits, or items from players and clubs at the peak of their cultural moment. Grails are priced accordingly and documented thoroughly. If you're asking whether it's worth it — it is.

Condition Standards

We describe condition honestly, because the collector community depends on it.

  • BNWT (Brand New With Tags) — Unworn, original tags intact. Stored correctly since production. As close to the day it left the factory as possible.
  • Excellent / Near Mint — Worn minimally or not at all. No visible flaws, fading, or damage. Presents like new.
  • Very Good — Light signs of age or wear consistent with careful use. No damage, no major fading. Displays and wears well.
  • Good — Honest vintage wear. May show fading, minor marks, or era-appropriate aging. Priced to reflect condition. Still a legitimate piece of history.

Condition notes are included in every listing. If you have questions about a specific piece, reach out — we'll give you the full picture.
